Respected Sir/Madam,
Mumbai Science Teachers’ Association conducts DR. HOMI BHABHA BALVAIDNYANIK COMPETITION since 1981 to search talented students in Science and to encourage them to take interest in Science.
This competition is based on scientific knowledge acquired by the students upto Std. VI and IX.
Students of Std. VI and IX only can participate in this competition. Students from Std. VI are included in Junior Group and students from Std.IX are included in Senior Group. This competition will be conducted in English, Marathi & Gujrathi media. Please encourage maximum number of students to participate. Participants are receiving Certificates, Prizes and Scholarships separately for medium and standard.
This competition is conducted in three phases. The first being written test which contains 100 multiple choice questions from all branches of Science, new inventions and discoveries etc. The level of question paper is rather difficult but matching with the age group of the students. However there is
no syllabus or books prescribed.
For information of the test a brochure is supplied to every student which shows how to attempt the questions. The first phase is of written test which will be conducted in Greater Mumbai, Navi Mumbai Thane and Remaining Maharashtra on different centres at the same time. Top 7.5% are selected for second phase i.e. practical test and they will receive merit certificate. remaining passed participants are entitled for passing certificate
provided the minimum marks are 35%. The practical test comprises of experiments in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. After this phase Top 10% are selected for the third phase of interview.
Marks obtained in written test will be added to the marks obtained in practical phase for the selection at this
stage. (Viva Voce). At this phase student has to submit action research report. The Topics for the action research will be informed along with test material. More details about this report will be circulated at the time of practical Phase. Each participant selected for this phase is entitled for a medal. Top 10% participants are selected for scholarship of
Rs.500/- and a Gold Medal, rest of them are given Silver
Medals. At this stage marks obtained in written test, practical test Viva Voce and action research report all together will be considered for the final
selection.
Registration for the
competition is done through School only . The entry fee is Rs.60/-
per student for Mumbai & Thane region. The entry fee is Rs.30/-
per student for the students of Municipal Schools. Entry fee is
Rs. 80/- (60+20 postage & transport) per student for remaining
Maharashtra. The entry fee is to
be paid by crossed cheques/pay order only. Cash will not be
accepted.

Entry forms are to be filled in Capital letters
only. Please use xerox copies of the blank entry forms, if found short, at your cost. Don’t use any other form for registration. More can be obtained from our office or you can download from our website. Please read the entry form carefully.
The name of the students cannot be changed. No fees will be refunded, No other student will be permitted to appear in place of absent student and number of students cannot be increased at the time of the
competition.
Answer books are checked by computer hence your cooperation is expected.
There is a possibility that, students from other school may appear for the test in your school or students from your school may go to other school. In this case your co-operation is expected.
To avoid inconvenience and wastage of time we have created sub-centres to accept entry forms and to distribute seat nos and centres allotted and the
brochures to the candidates. Please send your entry forms to the nearest
sub-centres.
Centres
A science teacher of your school
is to be deputed to collect the competition material (such as seat
numbers, centre etc.) as per the following arrangement.
Please send a separate entry form for students
studying in S.S.C., ICSE, CBSC Syllabus in the same school.
It is to be noted that the
association will not be responsible if the said material is not collected
in time.
A meeting of the centres’
in-charge (Science Teacher in-charge of the competition) of the schools
which are the centres for the competition will be held. At the time of the
meeting centres, in-charge must be present with the material required by
centres, received by them earlier. This meeting will be held on 30th
August 2008 at 11:00 a.m.
This competition is prestigious and popular in
the schools, so the test must be fulproof. Malpractices at all indulged
and or the computer indicates or is noticed by the organizers during the
flying visits at the competition centre, which will force the authorities
of the Association to debar the participants.
